Poetry in October: Verse 1

Sarah over at Fumbling Toward Grace is sharing poetry for the month of October.  I love this idea and it reminded me that I used to write and share poetry long before blogging days.

So many times, we hear that old phrase, "When God closes a door, somewhere He opens a window."  I read a good variation on that saying we should praise Him in the hallway until the door opens.  This poem grows out of the hopelessness we can feel in that hallway, as we wait for the window.

The Hallway

Waiting here the darkness fades the tapestry to gray.
Deep inside a quiet voice wonders,
When will the sun shine again?
Too long have I waited,
Too briefly have I loved.
Here I stay,
Watching the world fade away.

My thoughts surround me,
The darkness invades.
Gray my heart,
Gray my soul,
I too fade away.

As I wait,
The stillness calls,
Beckoning me to scream.
Inside my head the voice resounds,
My heart feels nearly dead.

As I wait,
The Voice calls,
Beckoning me to praise.
Inside my heart stillness resounds,
And I pray the strength to stand.
